I personally rate the film an 8.5 out of ten due to its great usage of comic boom visuals and music within the film. The director, Edgar Wright, took a lot of direct inspiration from the graphic novels for this film however there are some differences between the film and the books. These differences mainly apply to the fight between Scott (and his band) Vs. The 5th and 6th evil exes (Kyle & Ken Katayanagi) where in the film it is a battle of the bands style duel where they summon VFX monsters to fight for them as the Katayanagi twins play synthetic electronic sounds, while Scott's band sex bob-OMB play their song threshold. In the graphic novels this fight plays out differently with the bands drummer Kim Pine getting kidnapped by the katayanagi twins to lure scott to a warehouse to fight him with their robotic inventions. Another point where the show deviates is with the ending of the story. Where in the film Scott defeats Gideon alongside knives and Ramona before leaving the venue they where in where Scott makes the decision between Ramona and Knives, eventually choosing Ramona. Whereas in the comics it ends with the fight taking place in Ramona's mind instead where they defeat Gideon's physiological control over her, before Scott then apologizes to knives as she moves on to college and Scott and Ramona leave through a subspace door. These differences are due to the final volume of the novel not being finalized by the end of the films pre-production. I quite liked the way that edgar wright told the story throughout the film with subtle references especially with multiple references towards the 7 evil exes like 7 street sighs or 7 x kisses on the card with ramonas number on. If i where to be honest higher VFX quality could make the film better. The acting really stood out to me with this film, with the director Edgar Wright telling actors to try not to blink during scenes to maintain the comic book styling, I also think that Michael Cera was a really good pick to represent scott pilgrim.
